Brought to You by Dhillon Photography – Engagement Photographer in Mississauga, Ontario
Your engagement session is one of the most exciting parts of your wedding journey. It’s a chance to slow down, have fun, and document your love story in a relaxed, natural setting. At Dhillon Photography, we’ve helped dozens of couples across Mississauga and the GTA look and feel amazing in front of the camera.
One of the most common questions we hear is:
“What should we wear for our engagement shoot?”
Here’s your go-to guide to looking effortlessly stylish and photo-ready — without the stress.
1. Coordinate, Don’t Match
Choose outfits that complement each other instead of wearing identical colors or styles. Stick to a cohesive palette — think soft neutrals, pastels, earth tones, or rich jewel shades. If one of you is wearing a patterned piece, keep the other’s outfit simple to balance the look.
📸 Pro Tip: Avoid loud logos or busy patterns — they can distract from your connection in the photos.
👗 2. Dress Like You, But Elevated
You want to feel confident, comfortable, and authentic — just a slightly more polished version of yourselves. Go for outfits that feel like “you” but fit the occasion, the location, and the tone of the shoot.
👔 Men: Fitted shirts, layers, and rolled sleeves photograph really well.
👗 Women: Flowy dresses, jumpsuits, or well-fitted separates are always flattering.
🌅 3. Think About the Location & Season
Where your session takes place will impact your outfit choices. Consider:
- Nature/Outdoor Shoots: Soft fabrics and earthy tones (think Riverwood Conservancy, Port Credit)
- Urban Shoots: Modern outfits or something chic (like downtown Mississauga or Toronto streets)
- Fall/Winter: Layers, scarves, coats, and cozy textures
- Spring/Summer: Light fabrics, pastel colors, and breathable materials
🧥 4. Bring Two Outfits
We always recommend bringing two outfit options:
- One casual, relaxed look
- One slightly dressier (think date-night glam)
It gives you variety in your gallery and tells a more complete story. We’ll help you decide when to change during the shoot!
💍 5. Show Off the Ring
This shoot celebrates your engagement — don’t forget to get your ring cleaned beforehand so it shines in close-ups! Consider getting a manicure (or just tidy nails) so you feel confident in detail shots.
💄 6. Hair & Makeup — Go Professional If You Can
Many brides-to-be use the engagement session as a trial run for wedding hair and makeup. If that’s an option for you, go for it! You’ll feel camera-ready and it helps you see how your glam will photograph.
👟 7. Choose Comfortable Footwear (or Bring Extras)
If we’re walking around or shooting outdoors, bring comfy shoes for in-between locations. You can slip into your stylish heels or loafers once we start shooting.
👜 8. Accessories Add Personality
Add subtle accessories that reflect your personality — a statement necklace, a wide-brim hat, a leather jacket, or even a bouquet of flowers can elevate the mood and aesthetic of your session.
🚫 Bonus: What Not to Wear
- Neon colours
- Small tight stripes (they distort on camera)
- Wrinkled clothes
- Items that you constantly have to adjust
